Text: Colossians 1:23 If ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, and which was preached to every creature which is under heaven; whereof I Paul am made a minister.
Hebrews 2:1- Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip.
Let us not be a drifter. Let us be settlers, settled and grounded in the faith.
Why do people drift from the faith?
1. There is No Depth in Our Spirituality– Matt 13:5-7, 20-21; 2 P 3:18
2. Our Careless Denial of the Saviour– Mark 14:10-11
3. Discouraged With the Difficulties We Go Through- James 1:2-4
4. Have Fallen in Perverting Deception – Gal 1:6-9; Eph 4:14-15
5. A Division in the Church – Galatians 2:11-12
How is drifting characterises?
1. There is lack of a fear from sinning
2. There is no or lack of a repentance over sin
3. There is no or lack of victory over sin
The Sure Effects of Drifting:
1. Loss of Spiritual Growth
2. Loss sight of His Grace
3. Loss of Godliness
To bring back godliness, we need to choose to have:
• Daily time with God in prayer and even fast for help for spiritual growth
• Daily time in God’s Word and specific times of meditation and reflection
• Sing praises. Do not sing the worldly songs. Sing God-glorifying songs
• Move from talking about serving God to walking the talk with God
• Be burdened with a deep concern for those who are lost
How do we avoid drifting?
1. Be attentive to your personal spiritual needs
2. Endeavour to be always close to God. It’s rewarding.
3. We Need to Repent and Have Regular Cleansing – 1John 1:9
4. We Need to Return To Doing the Things That Pleases God
5. We Need Revival to Closeness to God
