These are the tenets of faith that Melbourne Bible Baptist Church believe about:
We believe that there is but one God, omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent, the Creator and Sustainer of all things, visible and invisible, revealed in three Persons – The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit.
God the Father
We believe that the Father is the first person of the triune God and the source of all that God is and does. From Him the Son is eternally generated and from Them the Spirit eternally proceeds. He is the designer of creation, the speaker of revelation, the author of redemption, and the sovereign of history.
God the Son, Lord Jesus Christ
We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ is the second person of the triune God, eternally begotten from the Father. We affirm His virgin birth to become one with us, yet without sin; that He died, was buried and on the third day rose back to life; that He ascended to heaven where He now intercedes for all believer.
God The Holy Spirit
We believe that the Holy Spirit is the third Person of the triune God, proceeded from the Father and the Son, and is of one substance, majesty and glory with the Father and the Son.
We believe that man was created in the image and likeness of God, but that Adam, the first man, willfully disobeyed God, bringing sin and death into the world. As a result, all persons are sinners from conception, which is evidenced in their willful acts of sin; and they are therefore subject to eternal punishment, under the just condemnation of a holy God.
We believe that Jesus Christ offered Himself as a sacrifice by the appointment of the Father. He fulfilled the demands of God by His obedient life, died on the cross in full substitution and payment for the sins of the condemned man. We affirm that each person can be saved and eternally secure only through the work of Jesus Christ, through repentance of sin and by faith alone in Him as Saviour. The believer is declared righteous, born again by the Holy Spirit and thus become the child of God, turned from sin, and assured of heaven.
We believe in literal heaven, the place of God’s abode, prepared for the saints and for those that have been redeemed by the precious blood of Jesus Christ.
We believe in literal hell, a place of torment for those who reject Jesus as Lord and Saviour.
We affirm that a church is a local assembly of baptized believers, under the discipline of the Word of God and the lordship of Christ, organized to carry out the commission to evangelise, to teach, and to administer the ordinances of believer’s baptism and the Lord’s Supper. Its offices are pastors and deacons, and it is self-governing. It functions through the ministry of gifts given by the Holy Spirit to each believer.
We believe that the devil, through temptation and deception, initiated the downfall of man and now seeks to destroy the faith of every believer in the Lord Jesus Christ and to hinder the further spread of the Gospel of salvation through Jesus Christ.
The Return of Christ
We believe in the imminent return of Christ. The Lord Himself shall descend where the believers will caught up together in the clouds to meet Him.
THE ORDINANCES OF THE CHURCH
The Lord’s Supper
We believe, in accordance with the command of the Lord Jesus, that we should celebrate this ordinance in remembrance of the atoning work of Christ and as an act of fellowship together.
Baptism in Water
We believe in fulfilling the command of Jesus to baptize believers into the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit and that this baptism is through immersion, symbolic of our death, burial and resurrection with the Lord Jesus Christ in His redemptive work on the Cross.
RESPONSIBILITIES THAT COME IN YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH CHRIST:
Reading God’s Word
Reading the Bible is vital to the Christian life. In John 5:39, the Bible tells us to search the Scriptures, and comparing Scripture with Scripture. The Word of God is our weapon and as soldiers of the Lord we must know how to use our weapons. Set a goal to memorize Scripture and meditate on the Word of God. In our personal lives and with our families each day, we need to be reading the Word of God. The Bible says, “Faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the Word of God.” Romans 10:17
We believe that God hears and answers prayer. The greatest untapped resource in our Christian life is in the area of prayer. Pray each day. (Luke 21:36) Pray for loved ones. Pray for church leaders and their families. Pray for your church. Pray for our nation. Pray for those who are not saved yet. Establish a prayer list. Pray always. (James 5:16, Matthew 21:22)
Attending Church Faithfully
Seek the fellowship of your brothers and sisters in the Lord. (Hebrew 10:25) The Lord Jesus Christ deserves your faithfulness. Attend every service of the church. A great deal of the strength of the church is based on the faithfulness of the people. Support special meetings at the church with your faithful attendance.
God’s work is to be supported God’s way. Giving is receiving even more (Luke 6:38). We cannot out-give God. The Bible teaches that we should return the tithe and give our offerings. Practice tithing as a conviction. Bring the Lord’s tithe with you to church each Sunday. Support the ministries of the church with offerings. By faith, give to the missions.
Witnessing to the Lost
Our Lord Jesus Christ came to seek and to save that which was lost. He is not willing that any should perish. He left us on earth to tell others about the Saviour. Determine to bring others to the Saviour. Work to bring other families to Christ and to the church. Set a time to go. Make a list of names and addresses of people you want to reach for Christ. (Matthew 28:19-20; Proverbs 11:30)
The above are every believer’s ministry. And you can be a real help and encouragement to your pastor in giving your best for the glory and honour of Our Master.
May God help us to work together to see something accomplished beyond the ordinary for Christ through our church.
